Create Your NC CPA Board User Account

Currently, the NC State Board of CPA Examiners (Board) uses a database management system that houses information on North Carolina licensees, CPA license applicants, CPA Exam candidates, and CPA firms. The Board is moving many of its processes to an online portal-style platform to provide better service to these stakeholders.

On September 6, 2023, the Board contacted CPA firm supervisors with instructions for creating a user account in preparation for the upcoming CPA firm registration renewal. Firm registration renewals will be completed through the online portal only. A firm administrator who is not a North Carolina CPA will not be able to set up an account using their own information. Each account must be linked to an individual in the Board’s database (NC licensee). At this time, only NC CPAs can create a user account.

Over the next several months, all North Carolina CPAs must set up an account to be able to renew their individual CPA license next spring and summer. The portal has limited functionality at this time (account creation, address changes, CPA license information, and 2023-2024 renewal receipts), but additional functions (form and application submission, license renewals, etc.) will be added.

Please review the step-by-step instructions for creating an account before accessing the portal.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Make sure you click “create account” to start the process
  • Make sure your password meets the requirements
  • Make sure you enter the correct information in each required field
  • Make sure you clicked “save” after selecting your security questions and answers
    • You will receive an error message if your account was not created.

If you have followed the account set-up instructions and your account was not created, clear your browser cache by clicking CNTL + SHIFT + DELETE keys at the same time, then clear your history for all time and attempt to create your account again. If your account was not created, try creating your account in a different browser (i.e., use Edge instead of Chrome).
